Minecraft has always been about showing off in one way or another. Whether you're trying to build the best house, sport a cool skin, obtain the most powerful gear, or more, the game encourages creativity and expression. This is taken to another level on servers, where players often interact with each other constantly. Showing off to others has never been easier thanks to Ultra Cosmetics, a Minecraft plugin that allows you to earn and display various cosmetic rewards. From pets that follow you around to flashy particle effects, there's something for everyone. Players can earn up to 4 cosmetics from each key they use, which will yield random results. If the default settings aren't enough, nearly every aspect of Ultra Cosmetics can also be adjusted through its configuration file. With this in mind, we’ve created this PixelHost tutorial to help you get started.
📥 Downloading Ultra Cosmetics
Visit the Ultra Cosmetics page on Spigot.
Click on the "Download Now" button in the top right corner.
Save the .jar file in a safe place for later use.
Note: While the latest download is generally recommended, specific versions of the plugin can be found under the "Version History" tab.
🛠️ Server Installation
Before installing the plugin, you'll first need to confirm the version you’re running. The plugin is currently tested on versions 1.8, 1.12, 1.18, and 1.19.
Go to your PixelHost server panel, then stop the server.
Scroll down to the "Game File" section, then open the dropdown menu. Make sure you’re running a plugin-compatible version, such as Paper or Spigot.
Next, go to "FTP File Access" and log in.
Locate or create the "plugins" folder, then enter it.
Press "Upload" in the top left corner, which will allow you to drag and drop the .jar file.
Once it’s uploaded 100%, return to the main page and restart the server.
🚀 Getting Started
Now that the plugin is installed, you can begin setting it up and unlocking various cosmetics.
🛡️ Configuring Permissions
Before using the plugin, you’ll first need to set up permissions by linking it to a plugin like LuckPerms.
Return to "FTP File Access," then enter the "plugins" folder.
Click to enter the "UltraCosmetics" folder, then press "Edit" next to "Config.yml."
Find the Permission-Add-Command section, around line 225.
LuckPerms: Replace the text with '!lp-api' to automatically set it up.
Other plugins: Use the necessary permission command with placeholders. For example, 'pex user %name% add %permission%'.
After this, press the "Save" button and then click "Restart Now" when prompted.
🎁 Keys and Chests
Now that the plugin has been configured, you can join your server and start opening cosmetics. To get started, use the following command: /uc give key [amount] [user] to give yourself chest keys. Then, use the command /uc menu, where the chest and key icons can be found.
When you’re ready, find an open area and click on the chest icon. This will summon a small platform and spawn 4 chests for you to open. Each chest will contain a random cosmetic, ranging from pets to hats. You can keep doing this for each key you obtain.
🔮 Ultra Cosmetics Rarity
Some items are rarer than others, allowing players to work towards earning more keys and obtaining the best items. For every item collected, it will be added to your inventory and can be enabled at any time.
✨ Enabling Cosmetics
To enable your earned cosmetics, go back to the "/uc menu" and select the desired section. These include pets, mounts, particles, hats, and more. By default, only your obtained cosmetics are visible, but this can be toggled with the funnel item.
Some cosmetics, like particles and hats, can only have one equipped at a time per type. This limitation can be bypassed by combining multiple types of cosmetics at once, allowing you to have particles and a pet active at the same time. Cosmetics can be removed at any time by using the redstone block item in the menu.
⚙️ Configuration
If the plugin’s default configuration isn’t adequate, further changes can be made through the aforementioned config.yml file or by accessing any of the other files in the same location.
config.yml: Allows you to edit all Ultra Cosmetics settings, such as the key price or potential rewards. Other settings include disabling items, cooldowns, and much more.
custom_cosmetics.yml: This file allows you to create and define custom cosmetics for new hats, particles, and more. Several comments have been added in the file to guide you through the creation process.
messages_en.yml: Here, all plugin messages can be adjusted and rephrased. Whether you want to add different placeholders or simply add flair, this is easy to achieve.
permissions.txt: Automatically generated. It shows each permission added through Ultra Cosmetics and displays them in various sections.
❗ Common Issues
Plugin commands not working:
When this issue occurs, it often means that the plugin is not loading correctly. Try using the /plugins command from in-game to see if UltraCosmetics appears. If not, check that the .jar file is in the correct folder and that the server is running the correct version. If you still can’t diagnose an obvious problem, check the server console for a plugin error message for more information.
I get a permission message when opening cosmetic chests:
This error is resolved by setting up permissions in advance. If this isn’t adjusted, the plugin cannot grant you the necessary permissions to use your unlocked cosmetics. Make sure you’ve followed the instructions above to set it up with your specific permissions plugin. Otherwise, make sure you’ve saved the file and fully restarted your server before attempting to use Ultra Cosmetics.
Floating text remains after opening a chest:
In some cases, there may be holographic text that doesn’t disappear after opening a chest for a new cosmetic. This generally doesn’t occur unless you’re navigating the cosmetic menu while opening each chest. In most cases, this will clear up automatically after some time and won’t have any effect on the server itself. However, restarting the entire server can allow the plugin to reload and remove the old hologram.
